2019 Greenest City Leadership Awards

UBC Master of Health Leadership and Policy Seniors Care alumni Ian Li has received Vancouver’s 2019 Greenest City Leadership Award in the individual category. The Greenest City Leadership Award, presented by the City of Vancouver, is granted to local citizens who have contributed greatly toward the city’s goal of becoming the Greenest City in the world.
As a registered nurse at a long-term care facility, Li recognized the lack of convenience and accessibility for seniors when it came to grocery shopping. As a result, Li developed Anjel in 2017, a web-based application that delivers grocery items to seniors’ houses for free.
With the help of volunteers, Li is now able to reach seniors who find it difficult to leave their homes. The service was launched in a pilot project with the Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House in 2018. Since its release, an overwhelming number of locals have offered their volunteer services while hoping to contribute in aiding seniors in the community.
