The instructors for the Master of Health Leadership and Policy (MHLP) in Clinical Education are highly experienced practitioners and educators who have built strong connections and research partnerships with health-sector partners.

Dr. Cheryl Segaric

UBC MHLP Cheryl Segaric

Cheryl Segaric has a master’s degree in adult education from Simon Fraser University and an International Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Certificate from UBC. Her areas of theoretical and clinical expertise include maternal-child and family nursing, and her research interests have focused primarily on understanding how nurses, patients and family members manage their relationships related to care delivery in a variety of acute care practice settings. As a nurse educator for most of her career, her passion for teaching is expressed through interests that include developing and implementing innovative teaching strategies, curriculum design, development and evaluation of clinical competencies with a particular focus on quality and safety indicators and education delivery contexts (such as classroom, clinical practice and online learning).


Kathy O’Flynn-Magee

KathyKathy O'Flynn-Magee - CE O’Flynn-Magee is a senior instructor in the School of Nursing. She completed her RN and midwife training in Dublin. She has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from UBC. Since 2000, she has taught undergraduate and graduate nursing students. Her research interests focus on teaching scholarship, educational leadership and curriculum development, with a recent focus using forum theatre to address bullying if students witness or experience it.

Dr. Elisabeth Bailey

Elisabeth Bailey Dr. Elisabeth Bailey is an instructor teaching in both the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs at UBC. She has been a psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner for over 10 years with a particular interest in the treatment of anxiety, depression and the sequelae of complex trauma. In addition to her psychiatric NP work, Dr. Bailey has practiced pediatric nursing in acute, primary care and long-term rehabilitative settings. She is also interested in using contemplative practices such as meditation to support compassionate nursing practice.

Dr. Jennifer Baumbusch

MHLP in Seniors Care instructor Dr. Jennifer Baumbusch

Dr. Jennifer Baumbusch directs a research program on health-care delivery and nursing practice with older adults. Her focus is particularly in long-term residential care, the integration of families in care delivery, well-being among individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families, and knowledge translation. She has methodological expertise in critical ethnography and practice-close research. Dr. Baumbusch is committed to community-based research principles through the active engagement of individuals, clinicians, service providers and organizations throughout the research process. Since January 2018, Dr. Baumbusch is the Director of the MHLP program.
